Headmaster beaten up in Narail

The headmaster of Bardia Bahumukhi High School was beaten up allegedly by a local Awami League leader in Narail yesterday.
According to sources, the headmaster A B M Kamruzzaman was beaten up as he refused to pay extortion.
Yesterday at about 10:30 am member of the managing committee of Bardia Bahumukhi High School and local Awami League leader Abdur Razzak, along with some of his associates entered into the headmaster’s room and demanded Tk 10,000 as donation for observing Pahela Baishakh.
They got engaged in an altercation when the headmaster refused to pay the money. At one stage, Abdur Razzak and his associates gave him a good beating. Later, Kamruzzaman was rushed to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex. After giving first aid the on duty doctors referred him to Narail Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
When contacted, Abdur Razzak said the complaint against him was false and fabricated. Students demanded donation for Pahela Baishakh to the headmaster and he refused to give it. “Hearing this, I just went to school to meet up the crisis,” he added.
‘Robber’ arrested in Satkhira
Satkhira: Police arrested a member of ‘Nur Hossain Bahini’, a notorious gang of forest robbers, from Horinagar Bazar in Shyamnagar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Tipped off that’Nur Hossain Bahini’ member Shahinur, a resident of Singhartali village in the upazila, was there in the bazaar, police conducted a drive there around 6.00am and arrested him, said Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station.
A case was filed.
Huge quantity of ‘jatka’ seized
MUNSHIGANJ: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in separate drives seized 800kg of jatka (Hilsa fry) and arrested three persons from the Padma river in Lauhajang upazila of the district early yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The arrested are Dolon Halder, 40, Alamgir Madbor, 30, and Abul Kashem, 32.
Later, they produced before a mobile court and the court fined them Taka 5,000 each. The Coast Guard team seized the jatka from different points of the river and arrested the trio, a Coast Guard official said.
The seized jatka was distributed among poor people and different madrasas and orphanages in the district.
Eight held with phensidyl, sharp weapons in Chapainawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested eight alleged smugglers and recovered 400 bottles of phensidyl and six machetes from Bagichapara and Hudmapara villages under Shibganj upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The arrested were identified as M Anarul, 50, M Golam Rabbani, 20, Abdus Salam, 30, Ruhul Mahmud, 25, Abdul Khaleq, 27, Kalam, 20, Bakul, 20, and M Niarul, 27, all are resident of the same area.
On secret information, a BGB team from Sonamasjid border out post conducted a raid at the area early this morning and arrested them with the phensidyl and the machetes, a BGB official said.
Later they were handed over to the Shibganj Thana police.
Man held for raping minor girl

Police arrested a man on charge of raping a minor girl at Tangrail village in Sarsha upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Asadul islam 18, of South Tangra in the upazila.
Moniruzaman, officer-in-charge of Sarsha police station, said victim’s neighbour Asadul Islam, 26, lured her to a sugercane field saying that he would giver her sweets. Afterwards, he raped her there.
Hearing her scream, family members rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
They caught Asadul and beat him up. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested him.
A case was filed against Asadul with Sarsha police station, said the OC.
