11 killed in road accidents

At least 11 people were killed and 15 injured in road accidents across the country yesterday as highways continue to remain perilous due to incessant rain, heavy traffic and speeding by drivers.
Seven of the deaths were reported from Gopalganj, two from Manikganj and one each from Kishoreganj and Mymensingh.
In Gopalganj, seven people, including three women, were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Bhatiapara intersection on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Kashiani upazila, reports UNB.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Mizan, inspector of Kashiani police station, said a Gopalganj-bound bus of ‘Ashique-Sagar Paribahan’ hit a Mawa-bound microbus from the opposite direction around 11 am, leaving one person dead and 10 others injured. Among the injured, six died on the way to hospital.
Meanwhile, two people were killed and eight others injured as a bus crashed into a human hauler in Baira area in Singair upazila of Manikganj yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sujon Miah, 30, a resident of Sanail village and Meher Ali, 50, resident of Kashemnagar village of the upazila.
Our correspondents add: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after being hit by a bus at Kamalerchar on Kishoreganj-Dhaka Highway at about 3:30pm.
The deceased was identified as Rubel, 27, of Nandail village in Mymensingh.
In Mymensingh, a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed and two passengers injured when a bus hit the vehicle at Bhaluka upazila headquarters yesterday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Lokman Ali, 60, of village Konabari in Trishal upazila of the district.
Apart from the road accidents, a woman died and two people were injured after falling from the rooftop of a train in Talaboh area of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur at noon.
