Five to die for violating woman,murder

Five people were sentenced to death for murder and violating a woman in two districts yesterday.Our Noakhali correspondent reports: A court here yesterday convicted four people and sentenced them to death for violating a housewife in 2013.The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each to the condemned convicts-Nasir Uddin, Masud Alam, Bahar Uddin and Mahim of Rashidpur area in Sadar upazila-in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment. Among the convicts, Masud Alam was tried in absentia.According to the prosecution, the convicts swooped on a house of the victim and violated her by turn after tying up her hands and legs on September 18, 2013. She was then treated at sadar hospital.A case was filed in this connection the following day.On September 26, police submitted chargehsheet against the four people.
After examining records and witnesses, Additional District and Session Judge Saidur Rahman Gazi handed down the verdict.In Netrakona, a court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his friend in Kalmakanda upazila in 2015, reports UNB.The convict was identified as Surjamal, a tea seller and son of Lahu Miah of Shaljan in the upazila. According to the prosecution, Surjamal slaughtered fish trader Bhajan Chandra Das, 28, son of Sunil Chandra Das of Bagarpar in the same upazila, to death over previous enmity after kidnapping him on his way to home from Durga Puja festival on the night of October 22, 2015.
