A letter, purportedly sent by the Jamaytul Mujahidin Bangladesh JMB yesterday, has warned organisers of Udichi and Charukola, Barisal, against holding Mongol Sovajatra on Pahela Baishakh. The letter, addressed to Udichi's Barisal unit president, Advocate Biswanath Das Munshi, and the organisers of Charukola Barisal, including Sushanto Ghose and Advocate Suvash Chandra Das Nitai, said Hindu-like cultural activities such as Mongol Sovajatra and other activities of Udichi and Charukola should be stopped. The letter said that like other parts of the country, the JMB here is ready to attack. "Our mission is to stop indecency in the name of Mongol Sovajatra and Boishakhi Mela. If you fail to stop this culture, your office will be blown up," the letter said. It also said that the JMB has listed the names of Udichi and Charukola and other atheist activists "who will get the taste of death soon". Sushanto Ghose, organiser of Charukola Barisal, filed a complaint with Barisal Kotwali Model police station at noon yesterday and met senior BMP officers. Advocate Biswanath Das Munshi, president of Udichi's Barisal unit, said the anti-Liberation group is trying to foil the Bangla Nababarsha programme. All members of Udichi Barisal are ready to hold the Bangla New Year programme in the face of all threats, he added. Shah Md Awlad Hosen, officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali Model police station, said they have started an investigation and made special security arrangements.
