The bulk of the teams sans Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity confirmed their foreign players for the upcoming Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), which will kick off today.
Defending champions Abahani Limited, who had fielded the highest number of seven overseas players last year, this time fetched Uday Kaul for their initial some matches of the league.
Kaul was the most successful players among foreign players. For Abahani, he had played four matches, in where his scores were 44 (not out), 63, 59 and 3.
Abahani’s coach Sheikh Masud Iqbal Mamun said that Uday Kaul has been practicing with the team since his arrival in Dhaka.
“We have brought Uday Kaul. He performed well last year what number of matches he played for us. This time he could not play the entire league for us,” said Sheikh Mamun.
Abahani’s arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited brought Rahmat Shah from Afghanistan for some matches. Like them, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club and Prime Bank Sporting Club also roped in Sri Lanka’s Dunith Nimhan and India’s Unmukt Chand.
Former IPL player, Parvez Rasool, will player for Gazi Group Cricketers, Romesh de Silva for Victoria Sporting Club, Hamilton Masakadza for Kalabagan Krira Chakra, Yashpal Singh for Partex Sporting Club, Abhishek Nayar for Brothers Union, while Legends of Rupganj brought back their previous player Jalali Saxena.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club confirmed their player from Pakistan but they are not yet to arrive in Dhaka. Club’s representative Sheikh Iqbal Khokon said that their foreign player has not yet to reach here in Dhaka.
“We have no match on the opening day. Our first match will be held on Thursday against Victoria Sporting Club. So, we could not disclose the name of the player until his arrival,” said Sheikh Iqbal.
“Our foreign recruit is a Pakistani player. Hopefully we could tell his name after his arrival,” Khokon told The Independent.
On the other hand, the representative of Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity Ruhul Amin said that they want to give more opportunity to our local players.
“We will not recruit any foreign player. We have decided to give more chances to play local players so that they could showcase themselves,” Ruhul Amin said.
A total of 36 foreign players from five different countries had performed for 11 clubs’ teams last year. Only Cricket Coaching School (CCS) did not field any overseas player or players. Abahani among the clubs fielded the highest number of (7) foreign players. Legends of Rupganj fielded five players under their belt. Mohammedan, Prime Bank and Prime Doleshwar equally fielded four players each. Gazi Group Cricketers and Kalabagan KC played three players each, while Brothers Union and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club also played two players apiece. Kalabagan Cricket Academy and Victoria Sporting Club fielded only one foreign player.
