China to take Bangladeshi students for higher studies
A three-member Chinese delegation on Monday expressed its keenness to take Bangladeshi graduates for higher studies in China.
The delegation, led by CEO of Ningbo OSDA Solar Co. Ltd in China Shirley Zhang, expressed the willingness during a courtesy call on University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at his office in the capital, said an UGC press release. Professor and Academic Adviser of Stamford University Bangladesh Dr AKM Waliul Islam and Chairman of Global Resource Augmentation and Management Ltd ASM Abdul Motin accompanied Shirley during the meeting. The UGC Chairman briefed the delegation about UGC’s mandate in promoting higher education in Bangladesh, the release added. Appreciating Shirley’s proposal, Professor Mannan urged the delegation to submit a written proposal to UGC in this regard and also showed eagerness to work with China. UGC members Professors Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Dr. Dil Afroza Begum and Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali were present on the occasion, among others.
JU ready to celebrate Pahela Baishakh
SAVAR: The Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar year 1424, on April 14.
Marking the day, a Mangol Shobhajatra will be brought out from Teacher-Student Center (TSC) premises at 10 am. JU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam will lead the procession, said a JU press release here yesterday. Parading main streets of the campus, the rally will end coming at Old Arts faculty premises. It will be followed by a cultural event. Other programmes will include Boishakhi fair, concert and cultural functions at different venues on the campus, the release added. Different departments of the university also have taken separate programmes to celebrate the day with enthusiasm.
Baishakh fair begins at IU Friday
Islamic University: A three-day Baishakh fair will begin at the Islamic University in Kushtia on Friday.
IU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari will inaugurate the fair as a chief guest at the university’s Bangla Mancha around 10 am, said a press release. IU Pro-VC Prof Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Prof Dr M Selim Toha will be present at the inaugural function as the special guests. The fair will be opened from April 14 to April 16 from 10 am to 8 pm.
Govt takes initiatives to spread quality education
Prime Minister’s private secretary-1 Sazzadul Hasan on Monday said a nation cannot prosper and attain economic emancipation without achieving quality education.
“The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina has been implementing many programmes for spreading the light of quality education everywhere”, he said.
