Seven siblings, nephew get life-term for killing farmer

KHULNA: A court in a verdict here yesterday sentenced eight persons, including seven siblings and a nephew, to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing farmer Mazid Sarder in the district of Jessore in 2009, reports BSS.
The court also fined Tk 10, 000 each, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment.
Khulna Division Speedy Trial Tribunal judge M A Rob Howlader handed down the verdict in presence of all convicts.
The seven convicted brothers are Abdul Gani Sarder, 45; Siddiqur Rahman Sarder, 38; Rafiqul Islam Sarder, 35; Taz Uddin Sarder, 32; Nazrul Islam Sarder, 30; Amzad Sarder, 26 and Masud Sarder, 22. All of them are sons of late Zahan Box Sarder of village Moddhyakul Majher Para under Keshobpur upazila in the district of Jessore. The other convicted is their nephew
Asaduzzaman Liton, son of Siddiqur Rahman Sarder of the same village.
The prosecution story is in brief that the seven brothers and one nephew beat up Moshiur Rahman Palash, brother of victim Mazid Sarder and Palash's wife Shahida Begum with sticks on September 30, 2009 over land dispute. 
Mazid Sarder also came under attack and was beaten up indiscriminately as he tried to save his brother and his wife from their custody.
Local people took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at afternoon. Babul Rana, son of Mazid Sarder filed a case with Keshobpur Police Station accusing 11 persons in this connection.
Investigation Officer, Sub Inspector (SI) of Keshobpur Police Station cNaryan Chandra Ghosh pressed charge sheet against eight out of 11 with a Jessore court. On September 27, 2016, the case was shifted to Khulna Division Speedy Trial Tribunal from Jessore court.
UNB adds from Khulna: A court here on Tuesday convicted two people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for possessing illegal drugs.
The court also fined the convicts -- Ariful Islam Titu and Sohel Reza Babul, both residents of Purbo Banikhamar area of the city-- Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, police arrested four people, including Ariful Islam Titu and Sohel Reza Babul, along with 80 bottles of Phensidyl from Shibbari area of the city on August 4, 2012.
Later, a case was filed with Shonadanga Model Police Station.
After examining records and witnesses, District and Session's Judge (Special Division) SM Solaiman handed down the verdict.
BSS says from Gazipur: A court in the district yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment under Arms Act.
AKM Enamul Haque, a senior Judge of Special Tribunal in Gazipur, ordered the verdict in presence of the convicted person.
The convicted person is Rezaul Karim Kalu, 32, hailed from Chapainawabganj.
Gazipur Court Inspector Rabiul Islam said on March 2013 Rezaul Karim was held at Chandra on Dhaka-Tangail Highway with two pistols, four magazines and 10 rounds of bullet in a special drive of police. Police filled a case with Kaliakair Thana in this connection later. Kaliakair Thana police submitted a charge sheet on June 3 of the year.
