A superintendent of Rajshahi Railway station was suspended on Friday evening for his alleged involvement in ticket scalping.
The station super Abdul Karim was not available at the office or on phone for comments.
The suspension order was faxed to Rajshahi in the evening and the station super was blamed for negligence of duty, said Khairul Alam, general manager of West Zone of Bangladesh Railway.
There was a complaint against him to block more tickets for VIPs, disabled persons and freedom fighters than allowed number 8 tickets during the Eid-ul Azha last year and an inquiry found him responsible for the glitch, Alam said.
No action was taken since the inquiry found him guilty, said a railway official seeking anonymity. He was suspended as the similar allegations were raised against him this year.
Sources at the railway station told this correspondent that there was an artificial crisis of tickets before and after the Eid and passengers filed a number of complaints of harassment at the station to get railway tickets.
