Prof Yousuf new VC of DIU
Professor Dr Yousuf Mahbubul Islam has joined Daffodil International University (DIU) as its new vice chancellor.
Dr Yousuf replaced Prof Dr Lutfar Rahman as his predecessor completed his term in the office successfully.
The new VC received his charge from the outgoing VC at a ceremony at the Vice Chancellors Office. Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor Dr Aminul Islam welcomed him with bouquet.
The new VC was warmly greeted by Prof Dr M Golam Rahman, pro-vice chancellor, Hamidul Haque Khan, treasurer, Prof Dr SM MahbubUl Haque Majumder, dean of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam, dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Prof Dr M Shamsul Alam, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof Dr Ahmed Ismail Mustafa, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and Prof Dr EngineerA K M Fazlul Hoque, Registrar.
Prior to his appointment as the vice chancellor of DIU, Prof Yousuf was working as the executive director of Human Resources Development Institute (HRDI) and Professor of Software Engineering Department of the university.
Professor Islam started his academic career at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics of the University of Dhaka in 1978.
He was the founder VC of Metropolitan University, Sylhet.
He was a founding member of the strategic planning committee, BUILD that planned the direction of BRAC University.
He was the founding academic director at the Residential Semester and the founding director of the Teaching Learning Center (TLC) at the BRAC University where he designed a participatory approach to teachers training.

JU classes resume today
The regular classes and examinations of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will resume today after a 61-day vacation of Summer, Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr.
The students of the university have already started to return their dormitories after enjoying the long holiday.
Kuet, KU reopen today
Khulna: The classes and examinations of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) will resume today after Lailatul Quadr, Jummatul-Bida and Eid-ul-Fitr vacation, said a university press release.
Meanwhile, all the residential halls have reopened for the boarders. The students have already started returning to their respective dormitories after the vacation.
The authorities asked the students to keep their identity card and show it to the members of the law enforcing agencies if needed before entering the university campus.
The academic and administrative activities will also start the same day.
Earlier, the university went on Eid vacation on July 14.
The classes and offices of Khulna University (KU) will resume today after the vacation of holy Lailatul Quadr, Jummatul-Bida and Eid-ul-Fitr, said a press release issued by public relations office of KU.
All the residential halls reopened for the students on Thursday. The students have already started returning to their respective halls after vacation.
