7 held with Tk 46cr snake venom
SYLHET: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested seven people along with 12 pounds of venom worth Tk 46 crore from a house of Raut village in Kanaighat upazila on Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Sifatur, 56, Nazrul Alam Nannu, 50, Abu Hasan, 62, Shahidul Islam, 34, Abdul Malik, 60, Wahid, 60, and Motial Acharjee, 60. They hail from different villages of Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Brahmanbaria districts.
Tipped off, a team of RAB-9 launched a drive at the house of Sifatur Rahman at Raut village around 11:45am and arrested the seven people along with the venom of cobra, said Pankaj Kumar Dey, media officer of RAB-9.
The elite force also recovered a revolver and four bullets from the house and seized a private car, he said.
1 held with 932 grams gold
Customs officials arrested a man along with 932 grams gold worth Tk 45 lakh at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Umar Faruqe of in Feni district.
Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House Sohel Rahman said Faruqe arrived here from Saudi Arabia by a flight of Saudi Airlines, ‘SV 808’, around 12:30 pm.
Tipped off, the customs officials challenged Farque while crossing the green channel and seized the gold from a tin of milk powder he was carrying, he said.
Businessman rescued
Detectives in a drive rescued a kidnapped businessman and arrested seven suspected kidnappers, including two agents of bKash, from a hotel in the capital’s Gulistan area on Friday.
Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a raid at a hotel and rescued Mohaiminul Islam from a room in the night, said Muntasir Islam, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Later police arrested seven people, including two agents of bKash, for their suspected involvement in the abduction of Mohaiminul. Details of the incident could be known at a press briefing.
2 minors drown in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Two children drowned in a waterbody in Gopail area of Mohonpur upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Khadiza Khatun, 8, daughter of Anarul
Islam and Mominul Islam, 5, son of Nayeb Sarder, of the area.
Police said Khadiza and Mominul slipped into the waterbody and drowned when they went there for plucking water lily around 10:30am.
Local people rescued them and took them Mohonpur upazila health complex where doctor declared them dead, said Abdul Hamid, officer-in-charge of Mohonpur police station.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
2 ‘peddlers’ held with yaba
RAJSHAHI: Members of RAB-5, Rajshahi arrested one alleged drug peddlers with huge yaba tablets from Nawhata area under Paba upazila in Rajshahi.
The arrestee was identified as Alamgir Hossain, 27, son of Moksed Ali of Sreemontropur under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district.
RAB sources said acting on a tip off, they came to know that Alamgir was waiting at Nawhata area with yaba for distribution to others drug peddlers. Based on this information, a team of RAB-5, Rajshahi Railway Colony Camp conducted a drive in Nawhata area on Friday evening and arrested the drug trader with 1,265 pieces of yaba.
A case has been filed against Alamgir under drug act in this connection, informed RAB.
 Stabbed student  dies
BARISAL: A college student who was stabbed on Thursday, died at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital yesterday morning.
The deceased Ujjal Kharati, 18, son of Uttam Kumar Kharati, was a resident of Kabai-Lakhipasa village under Bakerganj upazila of the district.
Local UP chairman Rafiqul Islam said Saiful Islam, son of Basir Sarder of the same area stabbed Ujjal on Thursday over playing a football match.
