Although the re-construction work of 24 kilometers long Muktirhaat road in Doman upazila of Nilphamari started about one year ago, the work still remains incomplete. Locals alleged that indifference of the concerned contractor is reason behind the delay in work.
The executive engineer of Nilphamari municipality told this correspondent that some Tk 13,02,14,944 was sanctioned for the renovation of this feeder road and the concernedcontractor was asked to complete the work within scheduled time.
But due to unknown reason the construction work is not advancing, he added. Sources said about six months ago the entire road was broken but the carpeting work of the road is yet to be started for which people are facing indescribable sufferings.
Some pedestrians and drivers of the various types of vehicles told The Independent that due to the dilapidated condition of this under construction road they are facing difficulties. The executive engineer said according to the schedule, the total work will have to be completed within May, this year.
On the other hand, Domar upazila engineer Md Obaidur Rahman acknowledged that drivers of the vehicles like buses, truck and auto-rickshaw said due to uneven condition of the road they have to drive very carefully and it takes them almost double time to cross this 24 kilometers long road.
So they appealed to the higher authorities concerned to put pressure on the concerned contractor to complete the work quickly.
