Anandanagar without water since March 31

UNB

The residents of Anandanagar in the capital’s Gulshan Badda have been facing an acute water crisis for the last 10 days, making their lives miserable, reports UNB.
Locals said there is no water in the area since March 31.
They said they used to get water from Wasa pump set up at Sonakatra (Baithakhali). However, an influential section of people blocked the pipe that supplies water to Anandanagar.
“We didn’t get a single drop of water in the last 10 days, making our lives a misery,” said Sadia Tabassum Tanni, a resident of plot No 1683 of the area.
Another resident Mahfuzur Rahman said they were doing their everyday works buying water jars and water from Wasa tankers for basic needs for which they have to pay more than the fixed price. Some even go to relatives' houses to take their bath and wash their clothes, he said.
Farhana Karim who along with her husband and a six-month-old girl resides on a third-floor flat of a building in the area said there is no water in the Wasa line since March 31. “It was a Karbala-like situation as there is no water in the first three days in my house and I was unable to fetch water from outside when my husband was at our village home.”
She said she managed to get some water through her housemaid which was inadequate.
Farhana also said their house owner bought water in Wasa tankers on every alternative day for a few days, easing their sufferings to some extent.
However, the landlord stopped supplying water from Saturday, saying it is not possible for him to buy water anymore as it involves hassle. “Wasa doesn't want to supply water in tanker. Besides, tanker drivers charge more than the official price for water,” the house owner said.
Another house owner Amdad Hossain of the Mosque lane said they get some foul-smelling water after midnight which is inadequate too.
Contacted, Executive Engineer of Mods Zone-8 of Dhaka Asim Kumar said he was unaware of the situation.
