Robbers loot bank in Laxmipur
Laxmipur: Robbers looted Tk 20.47 lakh from the Ramganj branch of Janata Bank in Ramganj upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Emran Hossain Patwari, manager of the branch, said a gang of robbers entered the bank around 3am and looted the money breaking the vault.
They also beat up a night guard, Mobarak Hossain, as he tried to resist them.
Another guard Shahjahan found Mobarak lying unconscious on the bank floor and informed the bank officials yesterday morning,.
Later, Mobarak was taken to Ramganj upazila health complex.
ASM Mahatab Uddin, superintendent of police, said investigation was underway.
‘Robber’ held in Thakurgaon
Thakurgaon: Police arrested a suspected robber along with six sharp weapons from in front of the Police Lines in the district town on Friday night, reports UNB.
Tipped off that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery at night, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the youth, said Moazzem Uddin, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police.
The law enforcers also recovered six sharp weapons from the spot.
However, other members of the gang managed to flee the scene. A case was filed in this connection.
BNP leader held in Satkhira
Satkhira: Police arrested district unit organising secretary of BNP Ashraf Hossain from Keragachhi village in Kalaroa upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, police raided the house of Ashraf, also a former UP chairman, at the village and arrested him at the dead of night, said Biplob Kumar Nath, officer-in-charge of Kalaroa Police Station.
The BNP leader was wanted in a number of cases, the OC added.
Young man held with arms

Police arrested an alleged arms trader along with arms from Kadamtola Baropota in Sharsha upazila on Friday night.
Acting on secret information, police conducted a drive there around 8:30pm and arrested Abdullah, 25, son of Monsur Ali, along with a pistol, one magazine and a bullet, said Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed.
Infant drowns in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: An infant drowned in a pond at Pikepara village in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
The child was identified as Sourov, 05, son of Kismot Ali and a class one
student of a local Kindergarten school.
Local people said Sourov fell into the pond near his home when he was playing.
People rescued Sourov and sent him to Habiganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital
where the duty doctors declared him dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Habiganj Model Police Station Easinul Haque confirmed the incident.
Man electrocuted in Barguna
BARGUNA: An easy bike driver was electrocuted in Amtali Kacha Bazar area under Amtali upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Tota Mia, 45, hailed from Keaobunia village of the upazila.
Police said, the victim came into contact with electric live wire while the battery of his easy bike was getting charge. He was injured seriously. He was admitted to Amtali hospital but the on duty doctor declared him dead.
Shahidullah, officer- in-charge of Amtali Police Station said, a case was filed in this connection.
