Syed Shahed Reza Chowdhury panel scored a landslide victory in the election of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) held yesterday with 28 candidates contested for 23 posts.
The chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haqu and Syed Shahed Reza Chowdhury earlier elected as the president and the secretary general unopposed.
Besides the president and the secretary general, nine others candidates of different categories have also been elected unopposed.
As the candidates of some vital posts, including the president of the secretary general have already been elected unopposed, there were no ecstasy left with the polls.
Though it was expected that there would be some close contest for the post of treasurer between Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal and Imtiaz Khan Babul but the former, also the incumbent treasurer, defeated his opponent with a huge margin while Chapal bagged 60 while Babul could manage only 14 votes.
Badal Roy got the highest 70 votes, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed 64 and Nazimuddin 64 votes to be elected vice-president while Mizanur Rahman Manu got only 19 votes and failed to retain his post.
Ashiqur Rahman Miku and Asaduzzaman Kohinnoor were elected as the deputy secretary generals with bagging 68 and 58 votes respectively while their only competitor Intekhabul Hamid Apu cast got 19 votes.
“I will bring the movement of the Olympic forward, we will try to fulfill the demand of all to the BOA, Syed Shahed Reza told the media in his immediate reaction after the election.”
“We will have a meeting very soon to discuss all about our future programs, obviously we will organise long term training for the coming Games,” said Shahed Reza.
