Bangladesh will tour Sri Lanka again to play a tri-nation series in February 2018. The third country will be India. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will host the high-octane series to celebrate their 70th Independence Day.
Recently, Sri Lanka invited Bangladesh along with India to play the tri-nation series. They observe their Independence Day on February 4 to commemorate its internal political independence from British rule on that day in 1948.
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, chief executive of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the news to media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.
“Sri Lanka invited Bangladesh in a tri-nation series which will be held to mark its Independence Day. Bangladesh will take part with India and Sri Lanka,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury. Asked if is there any bilateral series with Sri Lanka out of FTP, Chowdhury said that they are contacting with some other countries to arrange tours for ‘A team’, age group teams besides the national side.
“We have talked not only Sri Lanka but also some other countries regarding ‘A team’ and Under-19 Team’s tours. We are trying to hold series on regular basis for A team and U-19. Some tours have been finalized for U-19,” he said.
“Talks on bilateral series normally hold in FTP and scheduling meeting. Currently, we have a scheduling till 2019. Last scheduling meeting held in April. Further discussion will be held in the next date,” he also said.
When asked about Pakistan series, Nizamuddin said, “As per the FTP, the schedule tour of Pakistan in Bangladesh on July. We are expecting Pakistan will tour in Bangladesh in schedule time.”
He said that they could go for announcement of tour’s fixture and itinerary after getting from Australia’s feedback
“We’ve sent a proposed schedule to Australia,” the BCB chief executive said.
According to it, the two-Test series is slated to take place before and after the Holy Eid-ul-Azha.
“We are keeping our contact with Cricket Australia (CA). We are waiting for their reply. We could take our final decision after getting their response,” he also said.
