DU, Korean Kyungsung University sign MoU
Dhaka University (DU) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korean Kyungsung University at the VC's lounge of DU to foster international cooperation in education, research and cultural exchange.
Treasurer of DU Prof Md Kamal Uddin and President of Kyungsung University Dr Soo Geun Song singed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman and Dean of External Affairs of Kyungsung University Prof Dr Taioun Kim were present, among others, on the occasion. Under the MoU, DU and Kyungsung University will work together to develop academic courses. Besides, the two universities will exchange faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students, educational and library materials, research projects and publications. The two universities will jointly organise conferences, seminars and workshops. The agreement will be in effect from today and continue to its five-year tenure.
Int’l confce on material science begins at RU
RAJSHAHI: A two-day international conference on Material Science and Nano-electrochemistry began at conference hall of Teachers-students Cultural Center in Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday.
Main objective of the conference is to transfer knowledge, facilitate sharing research experience and outcomes face to face, establish research relations and find partner for future collaboration. RU's Department of Chemistry hosted the conference in association with its Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project. Member of Bangladesh University Grants Commission Prof Yousuf Ali Mollah addressed the inaugural session as chief guest with department chairman Prof Nazrul Islam in the chair. RU Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin, Science Faculty Dean Prof Akhter Faruque and member-secretary of organizing committee Prof Shahed Zaman also spoke. In his remarks, Prof Yousuf Ali Mollah said several important areas for materials science and nano-electrochemistry is likely to be described in more details in the conference which will helpful for the research students as well as for the advanced readers.
Some 60 research papers are scheduled to be presented there in eight technical sessions including plenary session and theme lecture. More than 200 researchers, teachers, chemists and other professional concerned working in the area of material, chemical, pharmaceutical, environmental and biological sciences are taking part in the conference.
ULAB organises a seminar to end sexual harassment
The Student Affairs Office of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar titled ‘Raise your Hands to end Sexual Harassment’ on Tuesday at ULAB's Dhanmondi campus as a part of its semester-long campaign to raise awareness about sexual harassment, says a press release.
Mrittika Kamal, a student of ULAB’s Media Studies and Journalism Department, presented a short video which portrays the serious problem of sexual abuse in the society, and shared her views on how to create awareness and prevent such incidents.
Arzoo Ismail, chairperson of the Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee and faculty of ULAB School of Business, engaged the students in an interactive session where specific case studies allowed them to identify and determine the nature and elements of sexual harassment. She appreciated the display of courage shown by the students by speaking up about such a culturally sensitive issue, and stressed the importance of sex education from an early age. The event ended with an informative and entertaining drama performance by Theatre ULAB. Other events in the campaign include hand print petitioning, workshops, and photo exhibitions.
