The authorities of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) have closed a dormitory for an indefinite period following clashes between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhtra Shibir. RMCH authorities at an emergency meeting held on Saturday around 6pm decided to close the residential hall named Shaheed Kazi Nur Un Nabi hall, said vice-principal of RMCH Dr Nawshad Ali.
The authorities asked its students to vacate the dormitory within 6pm. Sources said on Thursday night leaders and activists of Shibir and BCL locked into clash over collecting funds for a rag day programme that will be held on May 4.
The clash ensued when BCL men went to Shibir-controlled room for collecting funds and Shibir men refused to give any taka and threatened not to let them to hold any rag day programme. Two Shibir men were injured in the clash. Following the incident another clash took place yesterday among them.
Dr Nawshad Ali, vice-principal of the college, said for avoiding any untoward situation, college authorities closed the hall for indefinite period. A five-member probe body, led by Prof Mosaddek Hossain, was also formed and was asked to submit their report within 10 days. Rajpara Police officer-in-charge Amanullah said additional police have been deployed on the campus to avoid any untoward situation.
