Two drivers of railway were suspended for their alleged neglect of duty during a collision between two train engines at Chittagong railway station early yesterday.
Two separate probe committees were also formed over the issue. The suspended were identified as Shunting Engine Loco master Masudur Rahman and Assistant loco master Abdul Karim Talukdar. “Over the incident two drivers of the engines were suspended temporary on charge of negligence in duty,” said Manjurul Islam, Chief Engineer, Bangaldesh Railway (East Zone).
Bijoy Express, the train came from Mymensingh while entering Chittagong railway station at 4:40 am, hit the other rail engine and the both engines partly were damaged in their front. However, no casualty was reported. While the Bijoy Express reached near the station after getting green signal to enter the station, at that time a shunting engine was leaving the station and hit each other. As the speed of Bijoy was slow massive disaster was avoided, said rail sources.In the meantime two separate committees were formed to probe the incident.
A three member probe committee was formed led by Mia Jahan, chief transportation officer of (East Zone). The other two members of the committee are-- Manjurul Islam, Chief Engineer, Mainul Islam, acting chief signal and Telecommunication engineer. The other committee was formed comprising three members led by Firoz Iftekhar, Divisional Transportation Officer while the other two members are—Saiful Islam, Divisional Mechanical Engineer and Engineer Selim, Divisional Signal &Telecommunication engineer.
