Bangladesh Navy clinched the first place in the both men’s and women’s division of The Independence Day NRB Commercial Bank Marathon held yesterday with the participation of hundreds of runners from different organisations, services teams and individual competitors.
Organised by the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF) with the hope of ‘Militant and Drugs free Motherland’, the marathon was started from the Bangladesh Army Stadium at 7pm and ended at Manik Meah Avenue passing through Mohakhali and Farmgate.
A huge number of men and women participants took part in the race when Tuhin Sikder of Bangladesh Navy finished first followed by Abdul Hai of Bangladesh Air Force and Abdur Rahman of Navy stood third in the men’s division.
Meruna Khatun of Bangladesh Navy finished first in the women’s section. Reshmi Akhter and Rabeya Akhter of Bangladesh Police became second and third respectively.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder distributed prizes as chief guest and Engineer Farasat Ali, chairman of the NRB Commercial Bank was present as special guest. A S M Ali Kabir, president of the Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), general secretary Abdur Raqib Montu also attended the occasion among others.
