Woman killed for dowry

Satkhira: A housewife was allegedly beaten to death by her husband over dowry at Polashpol in the Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Firoz Hossain Mollah, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station, said Faruk Hossain, son of Mosharraf Hossain, got married to Yeasmin Hossain Tumpa, daughter of Mamunur Rashid of Palashpol village two years back.
Although soon enough the couple were blessed with a baby boy, Faruk’s torture of Tumpa for dowry to feed his drug addiction never stopped.
In the latest, fatal episode, he picked a quarrel with Tumpa and beat her up mercilessly over the issue deep in the night, leaving her dead.
Later he made a phone call to his father-in-law, informing him that his daughter had been hospitalized after falling sick.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Tumpa’s family found her body on the floor while Faruk’s phone was found switched off early Friday.
No complaint has been lodged at Sadar Police Station yet, said the OC.
