Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque yesetrday donated Tk 10 lakh to the family members of late Lt Col Abul Kalam Azad, ex-intelligence wing chief of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), reports UNB. The IGP visited the Dhaka residence of late Lt Col Azad and handed over the amount to Suraiya Sultana, his widow.
Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed, Additional IGP (HRM) of police headquarters Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, AIG (Confidential) Md Moniruzzaman, AIG (Welfare) Md Abdullah Hel Baki, AIG (Media) Soheli Ferdouse and family members of the deceased were also present.
Severely injured Lt Col Abul Kalam Azad died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka in the early hours of March 31. Azad and another RAB officer were injured in a bomb blast near the suspected militant den "Atiya Manzil" of Shibbari in Sylhet city on March 25 during an Army-led operation there.
