Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner M Asaduzzaman Miah yesterday said foolproof security measures have been taken for Ulema-Mashayekh conference marking the 42nd founding anniversary of Islamic Foundation at Suhrawardy Udyan today, reports UNB.
Members of different law enforcement agencies, including detectives, will be deployed in and around one square kilometer area of Suhrawardy Udyan to ensure foolproof security and ward off any untoward incident, Asaduzzaman Miah told a press conference at DMP media center.
A group of law enforcers will form a security layer within the Suhrawardy Udyan while another outside of it as part of the tight security arrangement. “As the conference is arranged by the Islamic Foundation, nobody will be allowed to enter the ground without invitation card and security pass,” said Miah.
Every inch of the ground will be brought under a CCTV surveillance system in addition to installing archways and metal detectors on its five entry points.
Members of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and bomb disposal units will be kept ready adjacent to the ground, while plainclothes detectives will patrol the entire area during the conference, Asaduzzaman added.
He urged the city dwellers not to go to shopping malls, including Bashundhara City and New Market, and keep private cars out of the streets unless there is any urgent work to avoid traffic gridlocks.
The DMP commissioner said roads from Shahbagh intersection to Matsya Bhaban and Doel Chattar via TSC will be remain off limits to traffic from 10:30am onwards.
Besides, traffic on 25 other roads and intersections will be diverted as part of the traffic management, he said.
The roads and intersections include Bijoy Sharani crossing, Khamarbari crossing, Banglamotor crossing, Moghbazar crossing, Paribagh crossing, Sakura lane, Police Bhaban crossing, Sabji Bagan crossing, East side of Mintoo Road, Officers Club crossing , Kakrail Church, Shilpakala lane, ACC lane, Carpet lane, Matsya Bhaban crossing, Kadam Foara crossing, High Court crossing, Shahidullah Hall, Bakshibazar crossing, Palashi crossing, Nilkhet crossing, Rumana Chattar, Kantaban crossing, Shahbagh crossing and in front of Aziz Super Market.
Some two lakh Muslim devotees from across the country and the Khatibs of Masjid al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi of Saudi Arabia will be present at the programme, said the DMP commissioner.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme.
