A Barisal court on Tuesday afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for possessing and peddling drugs.
Md Rafikul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crime against public safety, after examining 13 witnesses and other evidences announced this verdict in absence of the fugitive convict. The court also fined him Tk 20, 000, in default, to serve 6 months more in jail. The convict was Mizanur Rahman Milon, son of Ataharuddin Khalifa of Jhalakathi district town.
Asgor Hossain, bench clerk of the court, said detective branch of police arrested Milon with 25 bottles of phensidyl from Rupatali area of Barisal city on May 19, 2014.
A case was lodged in this connection by Sub Inspector Ahsan Kabir with Kotwali police station on the same day. Sub Inspector Kamal Hossain, investigation officer of the case, submitted charge sheet against the accused Milon on June 19 of the same year.
