2 to die in separate murder cases

Two persons were sentenced to death in separate murder cases in Dhaka and Rajhsahi yesterday, reports agencies.
UNB adds from Dhaka: A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a man to death in the sensational Rumi killing case. The court also fined the condemned convict, Saiduzzaman Bachchu, Tk 1 lakh. On June 2, 2012, police recovered the body of Roksana Akter Rumi sliced into 26 pieces from a commercial building, Nahar Plaza, in the citys Hatirpool area.
Abdus Samad, sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, filed a murder case.
Dipak Kumar Das, sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) Police and also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet on September 1, 2012. After examining the records and 16 witnesses, Judge Joyoshree Samaddar of the Women Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 pronounced the verdict.
BSS adds from Rajshahi: A trial tribunal yesterday afternoon convicted a person and sentenced him to death for killing a baby here around three years back. The convict was identified as Ashique Mondal, 25, son of Aktar Hossain of Adamdighi upazila of the district.
Judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal Shirin Kabita Akhter found Ashique Mondal guilty of the murder charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict.
According to the prosecution, the accused kidnapped Meghnad Hossain, 7, son of Rashedul Islam, from a nearby amusement park on July 29, 2014 and demanded a ransom of Tk seven lakh from his parents on the following day. After failing to realize the demanded money, he killed Meghnad. Father of the victim Rashedul had lodged a case with Adamdighi Police Station and police arrested Ashique Hossain based on circumstantial evidences and first investigation report.
According to his confessional statement, the police recovered the body. After examining the recorded depositions of the enlisted prosecution witnesses and other evidences, the tribunal handed down the verdict.
