Noakhali road accident

A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee was choked to death after her scarf got tangled with the wheel of an auto-rickshaw at Uttar Sonapur in Sadar upazila here yesterday morning.
The victim Nazmun Nahar Raha, 18, daughter of Abu Hasan of Mahabbatpur village in Sadar upazila, was a student of Noakhali Government Women’s College.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station Anwar Hossain said the incident occurred when she was going to her examination centre at Noakhali Government College by an auto-rickshaw with her mother.
She was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where doctors declared her dead. A general diary has been filed with the police station in this connection.
Student found dead

Police recovered the body of a school student from Bujtala Sonamukhi High School’s premises in Benapole Port Thana of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Parvez Hossen, 13, a class seven student of Bujtala Sonamukhi High School. Police also arrested the night guard of the school Mofizur Rahman for interrogation.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Port Thana Apurbo Hasan confirmed the incident. The body was sent to Jessore 250-bed Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
Woman killed ‘by husband’

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband in Jessore on Sunday. The deceased was Khukumoni, 22, wife of Antor, 27 of Sankorpur area in Jessore town.
According to the victim’s father Taramolla of Khelna village in Gopalgonj district, Antor married his daughter 18 months ago and during their marriage he gave his son-in-law TK 3 lakh and ornaments as dowry. After their marriage Antor demanded Tk 3 lakh more from Taramolla. As he refused to give it, he started torturing his daughter. On the day of the incident, Khukumoni and Antor engaged in a quarrel over dowry. At one stage, he started beating his wife leaving her dead on the spot. Afterwards, Antor hung his wife’s body from the ceiling to make it a suicidal case, victim’s father added.
Khukumoni’s father filed a case with Kotwali police station in this regard. When contacted, officer-in-charge Ajmal Haque told this correspondent that they could not say about the cause behind the killing before proper investigation.
Shiva-Parvati statue recovered
MADARIPUR: Police recovered a touchstone statue of Shiva-Parvati weighing nearly 85-kg from Maijpara village under Kalkini upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Being informed, police rushed to the village and recovered the joint statue from the house of one Habib Mullah. He got the statue while digging earth near his house, said M Emdadul Haque, officer-in-Charge of Dasar Police Station. The cost of 85-kg statue estimated to be about Taka one crore.
Astami Snan celebrated

‘Astami Snan’ (dip in old Brahmaputra), one of the religious festivals of the Hindu community was celebrated here today with due religious fervor and solemnity.
Astami Snan, Mela O Puja Utjapon Committee said, thousands of Hindu devotees from various parts of the country came in the district to observe the religious festival. Devotees performed the religious ritual in a peaceful atmosphere. Sources familiar with the committee said, peaceful atmosphere has been ensured to help the devotees to perform their religious rituals.
