A flash flood caused by breaches in Haizda Flood Control embankment has inundated nearly standing Boro paddy on about 3500 hectares in Dingaputa haor in Mohanganj upazila of the district, reports BSS. Mohanganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nizam Uddin Ahmed told BSS that heavy rainfall for the last couple of days and onrush of waters from the upstream regions have contributed to the flood.
The UNO said the flood washed way about 60 percent of ripen HYV Boro paddy on 3500 hectares. The UNO expressed the apprehension that rest of the standing crops in the haor might be damaged if the rainfall continued. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) Shah Alam Mukul visited the Dingaputa haor to see for himself the extent of damage of the Boro paddy there.
