April may see heat wave, more showers, cyclone
Met office warns
The Met office, in its long-range forecast for the month, has said that there might be a heat wave, more showers and one or two low pressure zones over the Bay of Bengal that may develop into a cyclone in April. The countrys north and north-western regions are bracing for a severe heat wave, where temperatures may go up to over 40 degree Celsius. Elsewhere, the temperature will be hovering between 36 degrees C and 38 degrees C (mild) and between 39 degrees and 40 degrees C (moderate). The north-east, however, may experience flash floods as rainwaters roll down the hills.
The north-eastern region, particularly Sylhet and Sunamganj, has started facing swelling in the areas haors (wetlands) following heavy rains on Sunday and Monday. However, the rains may subside from today, a Met office source said. The capital experienced rains that totalled 7mm on Monday night, with little wind, until 6am on Tuesday. It was caused by the westerly pressure above the north-western horizon for some time, which met with the southerly winds. But the northern part of the Bay of Bengal, where a steep pressure gradient brewed earlier on Monday morning, whipped up a rolling sea and high winds.
