No passenger bus can ply the city streets in the name of "Gate Lock" or "Special Service" from April 15 as additional fare has been taken from the passengers in the guise of such services, reports UNB. General Secretary of Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Samity (DSPS) Khandker Enayetullah revealed it at a press conference held at Engineer Institute Bangladesh auditorium in the capital. He said no one can charge additional fares from the passengers on top of those fixed by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and fare chart must be hung in a place inside the bus so that everybody can easily see it. Separate seats must be reserved for women and physically-challenged people in the passenger bus, he said. A vigilance team of the DSPS will monitor whether the decisions of the association are being complied with by the passenger buses, the DSPS general secretary said. He also said that the association will request Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the BRTA to take legal action against violators of traffic rules. Leaders of the DSPS were present at the press conference.
