Premier teams busy with selecting foreign booters

No club yet to turn up for players’ registration

Four days have been passed of a month long players’ registration for upcoming season but there were no transfer deal while most of the teams are yet to complete their foreign quota.

Specially, the title contenders including the newly promoted Saif Power Sports yet to be ready to complete the official papers of players’ registration.   
The reigning champions of the Bangladesh Premier League Abahani Limited, who played the AFC Cup match against Mohun Bagan yesterday in Kolkata, expected to return home today and will take decision to go for players’ registration, while the runners-up Chittagong Abahani Limited will have a meeting regarding the players’ registration today.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who missed their hat-trick championship previous season and formed a team eyeing to regain the title, yet to plan when they will come to complete the registration process.
Manager of the Sheikh Jamal Club Anwarul Karim Helal told this correspondent yesterday that they are yet to confirm their second and third option of the foreign quota, while have confirmed Darboe Landing, the only one foreign booter.
Helal said that besides Landing, they have three Gambian and three Nigerians in their camp and another one is coming from Argentina to join in the camp, after watching them in the camp they will select two players out of seven.
“Right now, we have no plan to go players’ 
registration, though all the local booters and Landing have already been conformed and we are looking for a genuine striker. We have a Gambian, three Nigerians are now in the trial and an Argentine is scheduled to land today (yesterday),” said Helal.
Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra, who also confirmed almost all the local players and two foreign booters – striker Dowda Cesea of Gambian and defender Ahmed of Egypt and a striker will come soon, as the team’s head coach Shafiqul Islam Manik informed.
Manik, who joined the team in the last season, after five matches, said, “We have already started practice from Friday, if everything would go smoothly, after April 15 we will go for registration, but all depends on the team management.”
“In fact all the local players and two foreign booters have already confirmed and we need one striker, expecting to come immediately from abroad,” informed Manik.
