Department of Fisheries and Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation organised a workshop on ‘Strengthening Public Private Partnership for Inclusive and Sustainable growth of Bangladesh Aquaculture Sector’ in the capital recently, says a press release.
Director General of Department of Fisheries (DoF) Syed Arif Azad chaired the workshop and Chairman of Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) Syed Mahmudul Huq moderated the discussions.
World Bank Fisheries Mission to Bangladesh Team Leader Dr Milen F Dyoulgerov and former commerce secretary Ghulam Hussain also attended the workshop.
DoF and BSFF have been working together to formulate a time-bound National Action Plan in 2009 to address the crises arising out of the reported cases of abuse of hazardous substances and medicines including Nitro-furan with considerable success.
Aquaculture contributes 3.65 per cent in the National GDP. About 1.50 million women have been working in fish processing industry. The aquaculture growth rate was 8.50 per cent in last 5 years.
