JU BCL man beaten by junior fellows

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit was beaten up allegedly by some junior fellows over past altercation on the campus yesterday.

The victim was identified as Imran Khan Sohan, a fourth year student of Accounting and Information System department and BCL activist of Al Beruni (Extension) unit as well as fellow of JU unit General Secretary S M Abu Sufian Chanchal. 
He suffered several injures in the head and his hand was broken and is undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar now. 
Witness said, some 5-7 BCL activists, led by Jitu, Bappy Ahnaf, swooped on Sohan and beat up with iron rods, sticks while he was chatting with his female friend in front of JU Medical Centre. 
All the attackers are third year student of Finance and Banking department and resident students of Shaheed Rafiq Jebbar Hall as well as loyal to BCL leader Mazed Simanta and Nahid Hossen.
Earlier, on Monday night, the attackers misbehaved with another senior BCL activist Razu Mahmud of Al Beruni Hall over trifling matter. 
At one stage, they locked in alteration. Later, some BCL men of Al Beruni hall including Sohan came to the place and slapped the trio BCL men of Rafiq Jebber hall. 
After hearing the news, the tense situation was prevailed between the duo halls’ activists. The attackers also assaulted a female student while she was trying to save Sohan, witness said.
However, it was not possible to reach the trio BCL activist by taking several attempts.
When contacted, JU BCL President Jewel Rana said, “General Secretary of JU unit is outside of campus right now. So, I did not take immediate step alone. But, we will take initiative after his returns.” 
JU Proctor Prof. Tapan Kumar Saha said “I did not get allegation yet about this incident. After getting the allegation, proper steps would be taken against the accused men.”
