Due to a light downpour from 2:30pm to 5pm yesterday, many areas particularly the low-lying ones have submerged under knee-deep water causes misery for the city residents of port city Chittagong.

The Chittagong Patenga Met Office recorded 31.4 mm rainfall in the last 24-hour till 6pm, said Masud Rana, duty assistant of Patenga Met Office.
 “The country’s maritime ports have been asked to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3,” he added.
Due to the rain low-lying area of the city witnessed waterlogging and severe traffic gridlock on the thoroughfares, inflicting sufferings on commuters.
Many officer goers, students, and garments workers were found standing at roads for vehicles in different areas of the city.
The city commuters had to endure sufferings while travelling through roads like Bahaddarhat, Murad, Gate No.2, GEC circle, WASA Circle and Lalkhan Bazar as the construction works on Akhtaruzzaman Flyover have riddled the roads with huge potholes. The commuters also suffered who used the roads Agrabad, Halishahar, Patenga and Bakalia and Chawkbazar as heavy traffic clogs.
The areas--- Sholoshahar, Gate No.2, Muradpur, Chawkbazar, Agrabad Access Road, Shantibag residential area, Commerce College were went under water and water clogs were created in these areas. The city commuters said as the drain have been filed and water could not recede the water logging was created with the light rain.
Tareq Alam, a private bank official of city’s Agrabad area said, “We are surprised that with such little rain the Agrabad area went under water. It might have happened as the drains have filled up city dwellers or the City Corporation did not clear the drains.”
 “Some lower-lying are went under water temporally as the water could not recede quickly. The workers of City Corporation are working at that areas where water logging has been created,” said Saibal Das Sumon, president of waste management committee of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
He also said nothing to be worried the CCC is working to clear the waste of the drains and canals of the city.
