Woman killed in Madaripur
MADARIPUR: A housewife was allegedly beaten to death by her husband at Datterhat village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Jasmin Akhter, 28, wife of Samad Munshi of the same area.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Model Police Station M Faikuzzaman said Samad often used to torture his wife Jasmin after their marriage over family feud.
On the fateful day, Samad beat Jasmine mercilessly with a rod over a trivial family matter at about 10 am and left the house, leaving her dead, he said.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police are trying to arrest Samad, the OC added.
Two criminals held with arms
Chuadanga: Police arrested two alleged members of an outlaw party from Monokosha village of Alamdanga upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of police arrested Lutfar Rahman, a resident of Amla village and Nazim Uddin, a resident of Musainnagar village, while they were coming to the upazila headquarters from Kushtia district riding on a CNG-run auto rickshaw, said Belayet Hossain, superintendent of Chuadanga police.
Police also recovered a shutter gun from their possession.
Wild elephants kill youth
COX’S BAZAR: A youth was trampled by a herd of wild elephants in Jhumpara area under Pekua upazila of the district early yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Rabi Alam, 28, resident of Miapara-Rajakhali of the upazila.
Police said the elephants coming from the nearby forests and trampled Alam to death while he was returning home through the area.
42 arrested in Jhenidah

Police in special drives arrested 42 people including a Jamaat-e-Islami activist for their alleged involvement in extremism and heinous activities from Sunday night to yesterday morning.
Additional superintendent of Jhenaidah district police Azbahar Ali Seikh said they arrested 15 from Jhenaidah sadar upazila, six from Shailkupa, six from Moheshpur, two from Harinakundu, nine from Kaliganj and four including a Jamaat activist from Kotchandpur.
Police sources added that the arrestees were accused in different cases.
Goods-laden vans attacked
in Khagrachhari; 2 injured
Khagrachhari: A driver and his helper suffered bullet wounds as goods-laden vans of a private company came under attack by terrorists on Khagrachhari-Dighinala road at Satmile in Sadar upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Md Salauddin, additional superintendent of Khagrachhari police, said a gang of terrorists attacked seven goods-laden vehicles of ‘Pran-RFL’ company around 9:15pm. The terrorist also opened fire at the drivers and their helpers when they came out from their vehicles, leaving driver Moslem Uddin and helper Abdul Qaiyum injured with bullets. On information, a team of Army rescued the injured and sent them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
15 Jamaat men arrested
LAXMIPUR:  Police arrested 15 leaders and workers of the district unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-slami from Marcus Mosque area under kamalnagar upazila of the district this morning.
Among the arrested three are identified as amalnagar upazila Jamaat Ameer maulana Nuruddin, pazila vice-chairman Maulana Humayan Kabir and blicity secretary of Zila Jamaat Mohsin kabir Murad, police sources said.
