Police yesterday arrested seven suspected militants including a medical student from a house at Kalibari of Mymensingh town. The arrestees are Shahidul Islam, 30, Alamin, 25, Ashikur Rahman, 19, Masum Ahammed, 30, Shah Al Hossain Mamun, 27, Nasir Uddin, 27 and Ruman Miah, 27, all residents of Mymensingh and Netrakona districts. Tipped off, a team of the law enforcers cordoned off the house of Advocate Anwarul Kadir in the area around 12 noon, said superintendent of police of the district Syed Nurul Islam. Later, the law enforcers arrested the seven alleged militants from the house around 2.15 pm and recovered huge jihadi books, computer, electronic devices and documents.
The suspected men have been living in the house for last four months and they used to say their prayers inside the house, police said.
The detainees were taken to the office of detective branch (DB) of police for interrogation, said police. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mymensingh Range, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional DIG Dr Akkas Uddin Bhuiyan, Additional Police Superintendent of Mymensingh Mohammad Noor-e-Alam were present at the spot, among others.
