U holds preparatory meeting to celebrate Pahela Baishakh
Dhaka University (DU) yesterday held a preparatory meeting for celebrating Pahela Baishakh-1424, Bangla New Year, smoothly and peacefully.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the meeting held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus, said a DU release.
DU Pro-VC (administration) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, Pro-VC (academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin, Proctor, deans of different faculties, provosts of the halls, chairmen of various departments, directors of different institutes, senate-syndicate members, representatives of teachers and leaders of officials joined the meeting, among others.
A 33-member Central Coordination Committee was formed in the meeting with Pro-VC (administration) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman as convener for celebrating the Bangla New Year-1424 smoothly. Fine Art Faculty Dean Prof Nisar Hossain will act as member secretary of the committee, the release added.
Besides, two subcommittees were also formed in this regard named 'Discipline Sub-Committee' and 'Mongol Shobhajatra Sub-Committee'.
DU Proctor Prof AM Amzad and Assistant Proctor Prof Fazlur Rahman were made convener and member secretary of the 39-member Discipline Sub-Committee while Fine Art Faculty Dean Prof Nisar Hossain and Associate Professor of Ceramics Department Md Robiul Islam were made convener and member secretary of the 29-member Mongol Shobhajatra Sub-Committee, respectively, it said.
The sub committees were asked to report to the VC on preparation of celebrating Pahela Baishakh within next seven days.
Prof Arefin urged all to celebrate the festival with caution considering the university's image and discipline.
He said the occasion has a global importance as UNESCO recognized 'Mangal Shobhajatra' as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the release said.
PABSEC secretary general meets DU VC
Secretary General of Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Asaf Hajiyev on Sunday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office.
Asaf Hajiyev was accompanied by Emeliaror Mikhail during the meeting, said a DU release.
DU Business Studies Faculty Dean Prof Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam and Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall Provost Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan were present on the occasion, among others. During the meeting, they discussed various issues including education system and socio-economic development in Bangladesh.
They also exchanged views regarding development of academic and cultural relationship among the DU and the universities of Black Sea region, the release added.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique apprised the guest of a brief history of Dhaka University as well as Bangladesh, it said.
NU Master’s last semester exams begin Apr 17
Master’s Degree last semester examinations of National University (NU) of academic session 2013-2014 will begin on April 17.
As per the changed schedule, the examinations will continue till June 13, said an official release here today.
The examinations to be held from April 17 to May 24 will start at 2 pm while the examinations from May 27 to June 13 (in the holy month of Ramadan) will begin at 9 am, the release added. The detailed information of the examinations is available on the university website www.nu.edu.bd.
JU buys three new buses
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University (JU) authority has procured three new buses with a view to improving the university's transport system.
An official of the concerned motor car company handed over the keys to the three buses to JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam at her office on the campus on Sunday, said a JU release. The newly purchased buses would further improve the university's transpiration services, the release added.
JUSC holds freshers’ reception
SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University Science Club (JUSC) organised a freshers’ reception programme for newly admitted students of academic year 2016-17 (46th batch) at the Zahir Raihan auditorium here on campus yesterday.
Eminent plasma physicist and the professor of JU Physics department Dr AA Mamun was attended the programme as chief guest while Shahriyar Kabir Shohag was in the chair.
The programme was included with a scientific session and freshers reception programme.
The newly admitted students were given the ideas about the higher education in abroad at the scientific session while assistant professor of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering (BGE) Dr Md Sharif Uddin moderated it.
Conducted by Shobuz Sharkar Shouvo, the director of JU Wazed Miah Research Institute and also the chief advisor of JUSC Prof Kahbir Uddin, eminent researcher Prof Kabirul Bashar and lecturer of JU Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BGE) department Umme Salma Johra were attended the programme as special guest.
Around 700 students of different departments under Physical and Mathematical Science Faculty and Biological Science Faculty were took part at the programme.
