Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday indicted 10 people, including Nur Mohammad owner of Khanjahan Ali Limited, in connection the seizure of liquid cocaine with edible oil at Chittagong Port in 2015.
Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) earlier submitted a chargesheet indicting eight people while dropping the name of importer Nur Mohammad, the alleged importer. However, the court rejected it and asked RAB for further investigation on it.
Mohiuddin Faruki, ASP of RAB-7 yesterday submitted subsidiary charge sheet indicting the 10 people to prosecution department of police.
The chargesheeted accused are: Two Bangladeshi-born British nationals Bakul Miah and Fazlu Miah, Mostaque Ahmed Khan, Nur Mohammad owner of Khanjahan Ali Limited, Prime Hatchery Managing Director Golam Mostafa Sohel, Cosco Bangladesh Shipping Lines Ltd Manager AK Azad, Mandal Group business executive Atiqur Rahman, C&F official Saiful Alam, security company official Mehdi Alam, developer company official Mostafa Kamal.
Of them—the first three are absconding and the rest seven are behind the bars now.
Nirmelando Bikash Chakrabarty, additional deputy commissioner (Prosecution) of CMP said, “The subsidiary chargesheet of cocaine haul was submitted to metropolitan magistrate Harunur Rashid court. The court asked to wait for further order on it.”
Over the smuggling incident a case was field with Bandar Police Station accusing Nur Mohammad, chairman, and Gloam Mostafa Sohel, manager, of Khanjahan Ali Limited for importing cocaine .
On December 7, 2016 the court rejecting the chargesheet submitted by DB police, asked the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to carry out further investigation into the seizure of liquid cocaine.
Reprimanding the DB Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Rahmat Ali passed the order saying that the DB chargesheet was full of flaws.
Khanjahan Ali Limited imported 107 drums, each 185 kilograms, of Sunflower edible oil from Bolivia the law enforcement agencies impounded the consignment on June 05, 2015 and opened the consignment on June 8. Later on June 27, law enforcement agencies traced cocaine in drum no.96.
