UNB

The UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CMW) will review Bangladesh situation on April 3-4, reports UNB. The Committee will discuss a range of issues relating to the implementation of International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families with the respective government delegations.
The review meeting will be held in Geneva from April 3 to 13. Review on Jamaica will be held on April 4-5 and Nigeria on April 5-6.
The above countries are among the 50 States Parties to the international convention.
They are required to submit regular reports to the Committee, which is composed of 14 international independent human rights experts, according to a message UNB obtained from Geneva.
The sessions will be held from  3pm to 6pm (Geneva time) at Palais Wilson in Geneva and resume the following day from 10am.
The sessions will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/.
Members will also hear from NGO representatives, national human rights institutions, UN bodies and specialised agencies. The Committee will publish its recommendations on April 19.
The International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families is the most comprehensive international instrument to date on migrant workers.
The convention seeks to play a role in preventing and eliminating the exploitation of all migrant workers and members of their families throughout the entire migration process.
In particular, it helps prevent illegal or clandestine recruitment and trafficking of migrant workers.
