Five get life term for killing woman

A court here on Thursday sentenced five people including a woman to life terms in prison for killing a housewife in 2011, reports UNB.The convicted persons are Mamun, 40, Kamal Hossain, 42, Jaynal Hajari, 48, Mizan Hossain, 37, and (in absentia) Khorsheda Akter, 40. They are all residents of Kowa area in Kachuya of the district.The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each and three months more rigorous imprisonment in jail.
According to the prosecution, Anowar Hossain, an expatriate of Saudi Arabia married Tania Akter in 2002.Later, Tania had an extra-marital relationship with Anowar’s nephew Rasel and they ran away to Sylhet on April 20, 2011.They were brought back home on April 23, and Tania was found hanging from the ceiling in her room on April 27.Tania’s father filed a case in this connection.District and Additional Sessions Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmmed handed down the verdict at 2pm.
