The ‘Operation Maximus’ conducted at Borohat in Sadar upazila of Moulvibazar is suspended up until Saturday morning due to lack of daylight and bad weather. The joint forces however will cordon off the suspected militant den up until the final assault which is likely to be launched early morning today. Talking with the media yesterday, Monirul Islam, Head of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) said that the operation will be resumed from Saturday morning. “You all know that the joint forces have been surrounding the house. We are sure that there are militants inside. It’s a critical operation and we need ample daylight to conduct it. That’s why we are suspending any assault tonight.”
Earlier, sounds of gunshots were heard as the CTTC and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) launched an operation at the suspected militant den from yesterday morning Police said members of CTTC unit and SWAT started the drive codenamed ‘Operation Maximus’ around 9:53am, said Shah Jalal, superintendent of Moulvibazar police.
While briefing earlier, CTTC unit chief and Monirul Islam said, “Operation Maximus is a difficult one as there are several rooms in the building and huge explosives lying scattered.” “We suspected that an explosive expert of the militant group is staying in the building. However, we couldn’t yet ascertain the number of militants in the house.” However, sound of explosion was heard in the morning, he said. The law enforcers have kept the den cordoned off since early on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the local administration has banned public gathering in Borohat area from 9:00am on Friday to avoid any kind of casualties. The announcement was made by the police through a loudspeaker in the morning and the order will be remain in force until further notice, said a member of CTTC unit, wishing anonymity.
