Bangladesh Under-23 Cricket Team will lock horns with their Pakistani counterparts in the third and last Group-B match at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar today.
Following the victories in back-to-back matches against Hong Kong and Nepal, the home team already confirmed their semifinals slot. So they remained buoyant for the high-voltage match against Pakistan.
Some players led by skipper Mominul Haque came to hone their skills in an optional training session at the SKICS Academy Ground. They opened their practice with playing football, in where Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel chairman Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar Sumon joined with the other coaching staffs.
After playing football, Mominul alongside Azmir Ahmed spent a longer period at batting practice against spin and pace bowlers. Azmir could not show off himself in the last two matches though he broke into the squad by playing better cricket at domestic league.
And so, head coach Mizanur Rahman Babul intensively worked with him so that he could showcase himself in the important match against Pakistan.
Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque spoke to media after their practice session, where he said that they are eyeing to clinch the trophy of the tournament.
“The matches we played last few days have been better. Then we still have some areas to improve in batting and bowling. Hopefully we all could do our best in all areas,” said Mominul Haque.
“Our next target is to become champions in the Emerging Cup,” Haque told reporters.
“If we can go there in Chittagong to be group champion, it will boost up our confidence level to reach our ultimate goal,” he added.
The senior players were more vibrant than the youngsters in the tournament. Expressing his high hopes, the diminutive boy said that they all will demonstrate their potential in the next matches.
“The performance the junior players showcased in the last two matches were not up to the mark. They are less experience. But I hope they all will perform better in the next matches of the competition,” the local boy thinks.
There are some players in this Pakistan team including Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Sohail, Hammad Azam, Zafar Gohar, Bilal Asif, who wore the jersey of the national team on various occasions. So, the match will not be easy for them.
When asked if he feels any pressure for it, the 25-year-old boy said, “For the national team I have played so many games against different teams across the world. So I don’t feel any pressure to play games.”
