4 held over CU student murder

Chittagong police arrested four people, including a couple, in connection with killing of a Chittagong University (CU) student. 

The arrestees were identified as Oman expatriate Iqbal Hossain, 28, his wife Yasmin Akhter Rumpa, 21, and his stepbrothers Mohammad Tayub and Helal Uddin.
Md Mohshin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayezid police station, said police detained Iqbal and his wife Rumpa from his uncle’s house at Raozan Upazila in Chittagong on Tuesday after six days of the incident.  After getting information, police arrested Md Helal and Md Tayub from Lalmuhon upazila in Bhola district on Tuesday.  
Earlier, On March 22, police recovered the body of CU student Alauddin Aulal, 24, both hands and legs tied with rope, at a rented flat in Shaheed Nagor area in Chittagong.  Alaul was a post-graduation student of Bangla department of University of Chittagong and also son of Shah Alam resident of Madanhat village under Hathazari upazila. After the incident, victim’s father Shah Aalam filed a case with the Bayazid police station, accusing some unnamed people.
Abdul Warish, deputy police commissioner (North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, at a press briefing at Bayezid police station yesterday said Alaul had been killed due to ‘extramarital affair’. 
Alaul developed a relationship with her student Rumpa while she was a seven grade student in 2007.  In 2008 Rumpa got married one Omar Sadek Chwodhury. In 20116, Sadek divorced Rumpa, as she faced lofty criticism in her-laws. Later, she got married to one Md Iqbal Hossain on July 25, 2016. But she did not get relived from Alaul as he used to disturb her regularly, said Abdul Warish. Police said Alaul captured some videos with Rumpa of their intimate moment and threatened to expose those. Rumpa informed all the mater to her present husband Iqbal.  
Later, Iqbal along with his stepbrothers planned to kill Alaul one month ago,” said the DC North. However, they are looking for another stepbrother of Iqbal named Masud as he was also involved with the incident," Abdul Warish.
In the press briefing additional deputy police commissioner (North) Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan, assistant police commissioner (Panchlaish Zone) Pankaj Barua and OC Bayezid Mohammad Mohsin were present among others.
