Mango’s high yield has to be ensured

It is expected that the DAE officials will offer extensive support to the farmers during this crucial time

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) are expecting bumper mango production t this year as over 85 per cent mango trees have bloomed during this season on an average. According to a report published in this newspaper, the fruit setting stage in the region is going well and mango farmers are contacting the officials and experts to take extensive care for better growth of the tender mangoes. It is expected that the DAE officials will offer extensive support to the farmers during this crucial time.
Mangos are produced all over the country but the soil and climate of the greater Rajshahi region of the country is suitable for farming mango of great taste and about 30 lakh mango trees are there in Rajshahi region’s 32,816 hectares of land. But the various kinds of mangos that are grown in other parts of the country are also luscious and even the mango that tastes sour serve other purposes and has substantial financial value.
So it is not just in the Rajshahi region, in the whole country the DAE has to actively support the mango farmers. If a person has just one mango tree he should be motivated to take proper care of that tree. They have to be made aware of what they need to do to keep budding mango remain in the branches of the tree until they ripen.
There are many mango farmers who do not know what particular spray is suitable for killing insects. According to experts in the field farmers should spray pesticides (0.2 gram, grainy) or liquid (0.5ml) with one litre water from the HimidaCloropid group. Farmers also need to be made conscious when they should spray fungicide. With proper measures taken beforehand with help from the government agriculture officials, the farmer indeed can hope to produce plentiful of the fruit this season.
It is expected that the target of mango production would be fulfilled with proper care. In the greater Rajshashi region mango is a cash crop. Because of the margin of profitability as well as easy cultivation farmers are increasingly opting for mango cultivation and the government must provide all necessary supports so that these farmers remain interested to cultivate this great seasonal fruit.
The demand of mango is locally huge, but businessmen have started to export mango to other countries as well. Bangladeshi mangoes even entered the international market with display of mango at the Walmart chain shop in the UK. It is hoped that mangos produced in Bangladesh would reach countries in other places of the world.
