RAJSHAHI: Concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned and public representatives have become an urgent need to end physical violence against children for ensuring their scope of becoming worthy citizens, reports BSS.Community participation must be ensured to prevent violence against them in house, educational institutions and working places. The observation came in a participatory discussion titled “We Can End Physical Violence against Children” at Ashrai Training and Resource Centre at Baya under Paba Upazla in the district today. World Vision Bangladesh and Lady’s Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS) jointly organized the discussion to mark the launching of Global Campaign Bangladesh.Children Rights Advocacy Coalition Bangladesh and Human Rights commission to end all forms of physical violence against children in Bangladesh supported the programme. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Selim Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guest with Debasish Snal, Programme Officer, Paba ADP-World Vision, in the chair.
Haripur Union Parishad Chairman Bazley Rizvi Al-Hassan and Harian Union Parishad Chairman Mofidul Islam, LOFS Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen Lucky, World Vision Programme Officers Sagor John Costa and Chitra Chishim and President of local unit of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy also spoke.
The discussants mentioned children especially coming from the disadvantaged and underprivileged families must be protected from all sorts of labour, violence, repression and oppression so that they could make themselves competent to serve the nation. Selim Hossain said the present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is very much positive towards protecting the child rights and urged the field level government and non-government organizations concerned to supplement the government endeavor. He termed the children learning as the foundation of all higher education and said their teaching and learning process must be effective and kids- friendly. Physical and mental development of children couldn’t be possible until they are protected from violence and deprivation from their early childhood, he added.
