Man gets life term for killing wife

MANIKGANJ: A court here yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Sadar Upazila of the district, reports BSS.
District and Session Judge Md Mizanur Rahman pronounced the verdict convicting Roman Mian, son of Farid Mian of village Beutha in the upazila, for killing his wife Urmi Akter in 2014.
According to the prosecution, on April 19 in 2014, Roman Mian went to his father-in-law’s house at the village of Gilando under Sadar Upazila in the district to bring back his wife. But his mother-in-law did not allow him to bring his wife back, which made him furious. At one stage, he attacked his wife with sharp knife, leaving her seriously wounded.
Urmi was first admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital in a critical condition. Later she was shifted to Dhaka Madical College hospital where she died on April 21 in 2014.
The next day (April 22), Abul Kalam Azad, father of the victim, filed a case with Manikganj Police Station against Roman, his two friends and his parents.
Police after investigation submitted a charge-sheet to the court. The judge after examining the witnesses and evidences handed down the verdict on Tuesday.
