Four women drowned and 15 people went missing as a trawler, carrying some 100 passengers, capsized in the Panguchi River in Morelganj upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB from Bagerhat. The deceased were identified as Beauty, 38, wife of Mohsin Ali of Kalibari village and her mother, Seyar Banu, 50, wife of Hashem of Gobaria village and Nadira Begum, 28, wife of Moazzem of Fulata village of the upazila. Md Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station, said the trawler sank in the river around 10:30 am while heading towards Purano thana ghat from Srombaria. Later, Coast Guard members and police retrieved bodies from the river. Local divers salvaged the sunken trawler. Around 30 passengers sustained injuries who were admitted to Morelganj and Sadar upazila hospitals. The district administration formed a three member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.
