Officials and employees of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) continued their work yesterday and stage demonstration demanding six months’ arrears salaries.
Anisur Rahman, one of temporary staff of taxation department, said his salaries due from November last. So they bound to start agitation programme and strike.
“We are passing hard days in our daily life and now it became unbearable”. So, the programme will continue until our demands are not met, said Abdur Rahman another employee of BCC.
The agitation programme has been started from February and BCC authority assured us to pay two-month dues and 6 months’ provident fund but they failed to execute their announcement, said Dipok Lal Mridha, BCC conservancy officer.
“Now our 542 permanent and 1600 temporary staffs are demanding six months arrears salaries and 32-month deposits of provident fund” he added. Md. Wahiduzzaman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said “BCC is trying to increase revenue collection to solve the problem”.
“With poor amounts of revenue collections we became unable to regularise payment of monthly salaries. However, we are trying our best to pay at least two months’ arrears as early as possible” the BCC CEO added.
