A court in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced five people to death and another to seven years' imprisonment for killing Ekushey Padak winning photojournalist Aftab Ahmed, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are Humayun Kabir, Habib Hawlader, Belal Hossain, Raju Munshi and Md Russel.
Of them, Russel and Raju were tried in absentia.
Besides, Sabuj Khan was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000, in default, he will have to suffer one year more jail.
Earlier on March 20, the same court fixed yesterday (March 28) for delivering its verdict after concluding the argument hearing of both prosecution and defence in the much-talked-about murder case.
A total of 20, out of 25 prosecution witnesses, including victim's son Monwar Ahmed Sagar, testified before the court in the sensational murder case.
Earlier, the court framed charges against six accused, including Humayun Kabir, driver of the slain journalist, on July 24, 2014, in the case.
Judge Abdur Rahman Sarder of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, handed down the verdict.
On December 25, 2013, veteran photojournalist Aftab Ahmed, 80, was killed at his Wapda Road house in the capital's Rampura.
