IPU begins April 1
As the Speaker of the host country's parliament, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will preside over the 136th assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPU) to be held here from April 1 to 5, reports UNB.
The Jatiya Sangsad and the IPU will jointly arrange the 136th IPU Assembly with theme of 'Redressing Inequalities: Delivering on Dignity and Well-Being for all', said a Parliament Secretariat handout yesetrday. Some 15,000 delegates, including Speakers, Deputy Speakers and Members of Parliaments from 131 IPU member countries, are expected to joint the assembly to be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the mega event at 7:30pm on April 1 at the Parliament's South Plaza. Ahead of the assembly, a press conference will be held at the media centre of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 9am on March 31. 

32 ‘Shibir men’ arrested 
Police in separate drives arrested 32 suspected activists of Chhatra Shibir, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami yesterday in Rajshahi district.
Police arrested 12 from Boalia thana, 8 from Motihar thana, 3 from Shah Makhdum thana and 6 from Rajpara thana. Detective also arrested 3 from different areas of the district along with jihadi (religious uprising) books and a huge numbers of leaflets from their procession. 
They are students various institutions, including Rajshahi University, Rajshahi College, of the district.
Eftekhar Alam, assistant commissioner, acknowledging the matter said 16 men are accused of subversive casea with different police stations of the district. 

PTI instructor shot at

An instructor of Khulna Primary Teachers’ Training Institute (PTI) sustained bullet injuries in an attack by miscreants in PTI intersection of Khulna city on Friday afternoon.
Md Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Khulna Sadar Police Station, said a gang of miscreants swooped on Md Mahbub Mostafa in a lane opposite to Sultana Hamid Ali School around 2pm while he was returning home after saying Juma prayers.
