A tourist police constable was stabbed to death by muggers in front of the Civil Surgeon’s Office in beach area of Sadar upazila on Thursday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Parvej Hossain, 27, a tourist police constable.
Jahirul Islam, assistant police super of the district police, said, Parvej riding a motorcycle chased a gang of muggers, numbering three, on another motorcycle in the beach area around 7:30 am.
The police constable got down from the motorcycle when the muggers reached in front of the Civil Surgeon’s office and stopped their vehicle.
The muggers attacked him and stabbed him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Local people also caught two muggers from the spot and handed them over to police.
