Temperatures soared across the country yesterday (Friday), rising by at least 1-3 degrees Celsius, ending the pleasant, cool weather that had been continuing in some of the northern districts since the departure of winter. Chuadanga in the south-west recorded the country’s highest temperature of 34.5C yesterday. But the hill and forest-clad lake district of Rangamati retained the cool, with the lowest being 18C.
So long, the nights were cool even in the concrete jungle of Dhaka. But from now on, it would be scorching hot during the day. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4C, rising from Thursday's 31.9C, and a minimum of 23.1C, up from the low 20s of the past few days.
The present weather conditions, and the presence of a westerly low in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and its adjoining areas, that made the weather cool for the past many days, could generate nor'westers, the Met Office said. Nor'westers are likely today or tomorrow. There could be more rainstorms in the days ahead, followed by mild heat waves.
